Organic, local search engine optimization is the best way for your business to gain visibility in your local market and significantly increase your sales. The following are just a few simple search engine marketing tips that will help your local business raise its rank in local search engine listings.

Local Directories

Start by submitting your website link to the local chamber of commerce and your local Better Business Bureau. Getting listed in local directories is the basic foundation for building links, driving traffic to your website, and thus increasing your business. Google Local Business Center lists local businesses for free, so take advantage of this. The majority of internet users today use Google and Google Maps to find local businesses when they need a particular product or service. Yahoo! offers free local business directories. Other well trafficked local directories include CitySearch and TrueLocal.

Leveraging Domain Trust

It takes a while for new domains to gain high rankings on Google. You need to drive a lot of traffic to your site first before you gain a search engine’s trust. So while you’re building up your domain’s trust, you can list your business in a sub-domain of an already trusted website that lists local businesses. You pay a monthly hosting fee, but it is well worth it, as it guarantees a certain amount of traffic and you can include a link to your main site in your sub-domain.

Make Your Address Easy to Find

When you’re building your website, make sure that your address is easily visible in several, if not all, of your web pages. Any blog, social networking profile or sub domain you have should also list your local address prominently so that people will always know exactly where to find you.

Targeting Multiple Local Markets

If you are targeting multiple local markets, make sure to create in your website a separate web page for each town. Use keywords that target the largest town in your page, but don’t include multiple towns in the same page. If you do multiple towns per page, visitors will see your website as less relevant to their market than if they see a page just for their town.

PPC

A pay-per-click ad campaign can be a great way to test what keywords are best to target in your efforts to drive traffic from your local market to your site. Google, Yahoo! and MSN offer PPC advertising. You also want to post PPC ads on websites that are relevant to your local target community. If you are targeting multiple towns, make sure to create a well-made, unique PPC ad for each of them.

By Jason Nyback

Search engine spiders and human users see two different things when they visit a web page. It’s important to optimize your site for both audience, considering that without the search engines you’ll have very little traffic (and if your traffic doesn’t stay on your page there’s no point!). Below you’ll find tips for optimizing your site for both human and search engine traffic.

1. Take the “8-Second Test.” Ask someone who knows nothing about your business and has never seen your page to visit your webpage. Give them eight seconds (time them) to determine the purpose of the page. If your test subject can’t tell you what your page is about in eight seconds or less, it’s time to revamp the site to make its purpose more clear. Most search engine traffic won’t even give you eight seconds before making a judgment. If your site is confusing or unclear, visitors will simply click away.

2. Avoid using design elements that search engine spiders cannot read. Flash, graphic text, and images cannot be read by the search engines. You can describe what an image depicts using alt tags; however, most image or graphic elements do nothing to improve your site’s search engine ranking. Emphasize content and balance your use graphics to please both humans and search spiders.

3. Tell the search spiders and your users what each page is about. One of the best things you can do for your site is to write a keyword-rich description that tells what users can find on that page of the site.

4. Make certain your site’s navigation is easy to use and in working order. Visitors should be able to navigate from page to page with ease to find any information they are looking for. Provide clear links to the main pages of the site, and use anchor text to link to relevant pages within the site. If any broken links exist, correct them immediately. Search engine spiders will deduct points for broken links and other faulty navigational elements.

By Vicki Zerbee

Who does the work is not what will make the difference. The plan itself is the key to success. Are the right keywords being used on the website and throughout the internet marketing effort for the website? Is there consistent search engine optimization (SEO) done for the website? Is a social media plan in effect?

Managed search engine marketing services will include all of this and more. Individual efforts need to have all of these integrated in the online marketing of the website as well. Let’s look more in depth at some specific areas and the benefits that can be received in terms of more traffic to the website and more sales from the website.

First, the foundation of the website should be the keywords, or the words that the website is going to target. There is keyword research involved here, in an effort to find the words and phrases that people type into Google and other search engines when they are looking for the product or service the website represents. There needs to be enough searches but not too many websites already targeting the keywords. That balance is important, and specific numbers are key to the process, so that the website will have the opportunity to rank in the first few spots on the first page of the search results where their potential customers are viewing.

Next we consider SEO work. The website itself needs to be optimized so that the search engines will find it, review it, and decide that it is a valuable enough website to give a high search ranking. More people will find the website if it is listed high in the search results. There are certain features that need to be in place on the website in terms of information the search engines see behind the website, the content of the website itself, and the navigation on the page (how hard is it to look around and obtain the information on the site).

SEO also includes getting valuable backlinks to the website. Backlinks are desirable to search engines because it helps give authority to the website when other quality websites are linking back to them. There are different strategies that managed search engine marketing firms and individual website owners will use to get reputable backlinks.

Last, social media and social marketing efforts are helping websites get new visitors in order to show their product or service, and converting these businesses into customers. Social sites provide fresh content daily. There can be updates posted on a social website that feeds into the company’s main website and providing an important feature of being updated consistently. There are very effective social marketing plans that can be targeted for a website and performed in a short amount of time each day.

Whether you choose a managed search engine marketing firm, plan to outsource some or all of the website’s internet marketing work, or have an employee implement your website’s online marketing, it is advisable to have a plan and to work that plan ongoing. There is more work involved in the beginning of a search engine optimization campaign, and long term effects enjoyed after the initial endeavors. Content that is placed on the internet to market or advertise a website stays on the internet from that time forward, continuing to deliver traffic and conversion results to the website.

Search engine marketing isn’t an entirety program. It’s an ongoing investment that must be resourced properly. It’s not a one-hit, one-phrase paradigm. It’s not built on quick wins for trophy phrases. For building a successful Orlando search engine marketing strategy, a monetary value is associated with it and that deserves proper budget allocation. For a better marketing plan for your business to have online presence, plan for an initial trial period, followed by some benchmark testing, where you will be able to carefully measure each result of your online position and campaigns.

To lay the foundation of search engine marketing, any company independent of its industry should be able to reflect it accurately and even spelled out to the last detail. There are four most important steps to bring new visitors to your site and make them your repeat buyers, to bring success to your business by using Orlando internet marketing strategy.

1. Objective statement: – Giving your objective statement a powerful “punch” which can be summarized as explaining your single most important benefit to a prospect or client. This “punch” could be description of what your company does, using only one or two sentences. A good example to this could be: “Our Company produces powerful e-commerce software helping Fortune 500 companies get more work done in one day, while at the same time saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars every year”.

2. Onliest selling points: – Try to think of a unique fact or feature that truly places your company above all the others. Is your product or service really superior from the ones offered by competition? Is it offered at a lower price than your competitor? Maybe the warranty you are offering lasts longer or the product can be delivered the same day.

3. Targeting the right market:- One of the best ways to find out on targeting the right market is by looking at the demographics such as age, marital status, sex, job title or geographic region of t he country and this can be done by opting for search, using Google, Yahoo or another search engine, using “demographics” as the main keyword. For example, if you are a real estate broker and if you are trying to sell a house to a young couple just starting out in life, chances are that t heir needs will be substantially different than a middle-aged couple nearing retirement.

4. A time to answer the call for action: – This is the step that usually the online search marketers forget but it is one of the most critical. Ask yourself the final question: “What do you want your visitors to do on your website?” Finally, during and after you perform a keyword research; you should review your call to actions both times carefully.
